DA420 - Introduction to GIMP: An Open Source Alternative to Adobe Photoshop
Description:
The GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It is used as a simple paint program, an expert quality photo retouching program, an online batch processing system, a mass production image renderer, and as an image format converter, among other features and capabilites. GIMP is expandable and extensible, designed to be augmented with plug-ins (over 100 available) and extensions, as well as having an advanced scripting interface. GIMP is written and developed under X11 on UNIX platforms, but the program also runs on Windows and Mac OS X.

NIH staff that work with image data. The course is designed with new users in mind. Note: this course is entirely a lecture overview of GIMP and does not include practice sessions using the program.
