WT100 - Seeking Information On the Web

Description:

The course will teach fundamentals about effectively searching the Internet. It will look at setting browser preferences and searching for information with Google. A preview of Internet Explorer 8.0 will also be offered

Objectives:

Topics to be covered include
  • using your Web browser
  • setting basic browser preferences, including
    • favorites/bookmarks (within a list and on the main window)
    • cookies and history
    • text size
  • search engines
    • how they work
    • how to run basic and advanced searches
    • how to narrow searches to get just the information you want
  • an overview of NIH Web offerings
  • a list of useful websites
