DA411 - Adobe Photoshop Hands On

Description:

Abobe Photoshop has many uses at the NIH including preparation of materials for publication. This seminar will cover Photoshop basics and explore specific Photoshop features that may be helpful for the bench scientist. This course is given as a "hands on" session and example images will be used to demonstrate techniques. The course will last for two hours but an additional (optional) hour will be open for questions and breakout demonstrations.

Objectives:

Students will learn about:
  • Electronic image basics
  • Using layers to manage visual information
  • Performing non-destructive image editing and maintaining an audit trail
  • Applying text labels, notation, and vector shapes to images
  • The ethics related to scientific image manipulation
  • Tools for refining images/correcting image flaws for educational (non-publication) purposes
  • Qualitative image analysis tools available in Photoshop

Who should attend:

NIH staff that work with image data. The course is designed with new users in mind, but seasoned Photoshop users that wish to review features are also welcome.
