CR100 - Introduction to CRIS

Description:

CRIS-Sunrise (also known as Sunrise Clinical Manager or SCM) is the Clinical Research Information System used by the NIH Clinical Center and Institute staff for entering orders, viewing results, and documenting patient care.

This CRIS Introduction course provides an overview of the CRIS-Sunrise functionality. Through hands-on experience, users will learn how to locate patients, create patient lists, view results, orders and clinical documentation, and how to retrieve and print reports. These sessions are also designed to provide hands-on experience using CRIS.

Review of the appropriate computer based training module prior to attending class is recommended. All CRIS Web Based Training modules are located on the CRIS website: http://cris.cc.nih.gov/cristraining/cbt.html.

CRIS Code Access

It is recommended that before attending class, students complete and return a CRIS Access Form, which is required for assignment of privileges to receive a code to access CRIS. For information on how to get a CRIS account, go to: http://cris.cc.nih.gov/accounts/index.html.

Classes have a maximum number of attendees and can fill quickly. Any student who applies for a class that has filled but has not yet been marked as full will be contacted to reschedule.

Objectives:

Upon completion of the Introduction course, the user will be able to:

  • Discuss Clinical Research Information System (CRIS) features
  • Access CRIS and navigate its screens
  • Locate a single patient or group of patients using various identifiers
  • View results, orders and select clinical documentation
  • Demonstrate patient information displays
  • Demonstrate how to retrieve and print a report
  • Explain the role of CRIS in supporting clinical research and patient care
  • Demonstrate how to navigate various CRIS features and functionalities
  • Identify how CRIS will improve clinical workflow and management of patient care
  • Successfully utilize CRIS according to their role description and security access

    Class Location

    All CRIS course sessions are held at the Clinical Center (Building 10) in the Department of Clinical Research Informatics (DCRI) Training Room. Entrance to the department is located on the first floor, Room 1C290.

    Reasonable Accommodations

    Individuals who need reasonable accommodation to participate in CIT Training courses should let CIT Training know at least 5 days prior to the class.     Who should attend:

    CRIS Introduction Course is for Clinical Center and Institute staff that will use CRIS for viewing/retrieving patient data (as part of their job requirements). Physicians and other prescribers who will be not be entering patient orders should attend this course. Questions about what CRIS classes to take and to register, contact CIT Training at 301-594-6248.     Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses not employed by Nursing and Patient Care Services (NPCS) must complete the Credentials Verification Process with the Credentials Verification Consultant at (301) 496-5661. This involves having your CRIS Access Request form signed by the NPCS Chief or designee. Your CRIS Access Request will not be processed until this verification is completed.

    Session Types

    Standard denotes only one session (course/class) is offered at one particular time.

    Concurrent denotes several sessions (courses/classes) occurring at the same time. Staff should only sign up for one session during a four hour time period.
