CRIS-Sunrise (also known as Sunrise Clinical Manager or SCM) is the Clinical Research Information System used by the NIH Clinical Center and Institute staff for viewing, ordering, and documenting patient care.
This course provides instruction and hands-on practice for clinicians on how to enter, review and edit clinical
documentation in CRIS through the use of flow sheets, structured notes and free-text notes. A prerequisite of
this course is the completion of the Introduction to CRIS session.
Review of the appropriate computer based training module is recommended. All CRIS Web Based Training modules are
located on the CRIS website: http://cris.cc.nih.gov/cristraining/cbt.html.
CRIS Code Access
It is recommended that before attending class, students complete and return a CRIS Access Form, which is required
for assignment of privileges to receive a code to access CRIS. For information on how to get a CRIS account, go to:

Classes have a maximum numbers of attendees and can fill quickly. Any student who applies for a class that has
filled but has not yet been marked as full will be contacted to reschedule.
At the completion of this course, the user will be able to:
- Discuss the differences between free-text notes, structured notes, and flowsheets.
- Demonstrate how to locate and enter data in free-text notes, structured notes, and flowsheets.
- Demonstrate how to enter data such as allergies, comments, care providers, significant events, and
height/weight.
- Identify various methods for reviewing and editing completed documents.
- Demonstrate how to select Clinical Summary Tab views and filter by timeframes.
Class Location
All CRIS course sessions are held at the Clinical Center in the Department of Clinical Research Informatics (DCRI)
Training Room. Entrance to the department is located on the first floor, Room 1C290.
Individuals who need reasonable accommodation to participate in CIT Training courses should let CIT Training know at least 5 days prior to the class.

Nursing and ancillary staff that are required to document clinical information in CRIS. Attendance is based on
user's supervisor recommendation/decision.

Session Types
Standard denotes only one session (course/class) is offered at one particular time.
Concurrent denotes several sessions (courses/classes) occurring at the same time. Staff should only sign
up for one session during a four hour time period.
